KTVI-TV (CHANNEL 2 IN ST. LOUIS) COVERAGE OF MARY MATALIN LUNCHEON

The following report appeared on KTVI-TV's nine o'clock p.m. news broadcast on Tuesday, December 4, 2001.

Murphey:  "As America battles terrorism, some might be surprised to see the role women play in crafting the war strategy."

Murphey voice-over:  "One woman with a lot of clout is Mary Matalin, assistant to President Bush.  Matalin was in Clayton today supporting Jim Talent in his bid for the U.S. Senate.  She told her audience that women must use their voice in politics."

Matalin:  “We have to participate in the process, the political process.  Look what's going on in Afghanistan.  We are working really hard to get women a seat at the table because women are a civilizing force.  They are a moderating force.  They need to work, they need to be a part of the culture, they need to be a part of the government.”

Murphey:  “Nearly six hundred women attended today's luncheon.  The event launches the coalition of Women for Talent."
